Held on the second Thursday evening of each month, the chamber’s networking event is our most popular event by far. Hosted at a member’s place of business, the event offers current and prospective members the opportunity to meet other business professionals and community leaders, build new partnerships, make new friends and exchange best business practices in a fun and welcoming social environment.
This monthly ninety minute brainstorming session brings members together to discuss business challenges and opportunities. It is a safe environment where we celebrate success, solve pressing issues, offer support and encouragement, unleash creativity and gain valuable insights to expand and grow businesses. Each session is structured to give the spotlight to one individual’s business issues, utilize the powerful minds and diverse disciplines within our own community, and help establish valuable relationships between like-minded industry professionals.
Our annual conference, in its third year, allows members the opportunity to hear from leading business professionals and participate in multiple breakout sessions on certification, leadership and business growth. This year’s conference was hosted by member business Shook Hardy & Bacon LLP with over 120+ attendees. A force for change, taking LGBT business to the next level was the theme, allowing attendees to explore the policies and strategies that can take LGBT businesses and our allies to the next level. Some of the highlights included a keynote address by Diana Kander, Attorney, Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Missouri and Senior Fellow at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and very insightful Google talks from industry leading members.
The Supplier Diversity committee works closely with the NGLCC to certify businesses who are 51% or more LGBT owned. They work to assist member businesses as they move through the in-depth certification process and have certified 14+ members to date. This certification earns members a place in the NGLCC’s national supplier directory of over 400+ certified businesses making the NGLCC the largest LGBT business development organization in the world. Corporations look to this directory to diversify their supplier base and award contracts to minority businesses, multiple members have seen this certification pay off in the form of new contracts.
This 10 session course and coaching program gives participates the opportunity to learn key leadership skills from the Honorable Kay Barnes, former Kansas City Mayor and long-time community leader. This series covers a variety of topics including change management, dealing with conflict and inherent contradictions in organizations, time and stress management and effectively communication through technology.
This diverse group of 18+ Ambassadors work with current and prospective members to ensure they feel welcomed, engaged, and connected. Ambassadors work to better understand the needs of members, and offer ways to best leverage chamber benefits, as well as connect them with other members who may have products or services to satisfy their needs.
These quarterly onboarding sessions allow members a chance to learn about all the valuable benefits that come with membership of the chamber. This small group setting fosters an environment where members can ask specific questions, identify which benefits fit them best and learn how to take advantage of them.
